A Few Important Things

all 5 chickens
At least I think they are important.  I MET THE CHICKENS! There are 2 black ones, they probably like me; and 3 white ones, they probably don't like me.  They eat wierd stuff that Mom and Granny just throw in their pen. The first time we went to see them, Mom had me on a leash but Granny said I needed to be trusted more.  The second time we went to get something called eggs, Mom let me just go out with her.  I visited with them for a few minutes and when Mom was on the porch and called me, I came lickety split.  It's important to be trusted.
I went out a couple more times to visit with them. I was trying to find out who was not laying and warn her she might become history.  Granny said that the white ones are not as good as the black ones so they are going away.  I wonder where they will go.  Maybe next time they will be able to come out and play with me.  Granny is selling the eggs now instead of giving them away because she has to buy more food.  She also said that Chuck, one of Mom's brothers, was going to chop down some trees so there would be more sunshine in their pen and they would all lay eggs.  Maybe they won't have to go away then.

Monty's position
my first look over
We have this deck with a bench on it that we can get up on and look outside the yard.  Here's a picture of Monty resting his head on the fence.  Well, I couldn't get up on it at first but my legs have grown and now I can!  Mom said she was worried that day was coming!  She's worried that I will see something really cool and just go over the top...it's about 5 feet down.  I really think a Porti could do that but she doesn't want me to try.  When she  came home from her exercise class, Dad had attached  this little green edging fence to the top of our wood fence.  That way, Monty can still rest his head on the top rail and I probably won't go over.  They were talking about the first Golden they had, Happy, who would chew on the top rail and bark at dogs going by.  I guess they put up an electric wire and he stopped after one hit.  Granny helped Mom with that.  I think I'll be good about the fence.

with the green fence
Mom has kind of messed up her dates and we are not going to Border's to read with the kids this week but rather next week.  I'm kind of glad because we have a lot of other stuff going on.  I still had to have a bath.  Granny said I was looking dusty.  Mom said she was going to trim me after I'm dry and that I need to stand still.  Maybe if I look nice for puppy class those blondies will play with me.

Happy Birthday to Me...and Monty

Tomorrow I am 6 months old and Monty is 5 years old.  Isn't that exciting...ya think we will get something special?  Monty will probably get to go to Starbuck's but I'll still be at the beach. We've been at the beach house since last Wednesday and it's been fun.  I got to go to Granny's a couple of times.  We went for a dinner cooked by Uncle Pete who is one of Mom's younger brothers...He just had a birthday on Friday!  Pete is a great cook...at least that's what Mom said...I didn't get any of the dinner, not even a bone to chew on.
Uncle Pete and Me
fixing the sheepskin

Granny gave me a sheepskin to lie on so I
started arranging it so it was just perfect.
That's a Porti thing you know, anyway I dis-
covered the hide on the back which was pretty tasty.  Guess what...I lost the sheepskin
One morning when we went for our beach walk, I started wading in the water and Mom got pretty excited. Don't know what the big deal is, after all I am a water dog. After I did my wild girl, Go Dog Go routine on the beach I started an excavation job in the sand.  Got a pretty good one going
excavating
testing the water

Monty and I went down and played with his cousin, Casey, who is a pretty handsome golden who loves to swim.  I'll probably go swimming with him but Mom said I better hurry up because they're moving to Bend.  Can you believe it!?  I came from Bend and they're moving there.  Monty is going to miss him A LOT!

One of the things I want to do at Granny's is see those white and brown things in that pen.  Mom keeps going out to feed them and give them water...like she does for me but sometimes she gives them scraps like lettuce and stuff and brings back these kind of round things she calls eggs.  Every time she does it I have to stay with Granny and just watch.  Maybe she'll introduce us for my 6 month birthday.

Mom said that when I get home I have to have a bath because we will be going to Border's Books to listen to children read.  It's part of my training to be a therapy dog.

What a Weekend

the white tiger
Last Friday we went to puppy class but Becky was not there, she was sick...sicker than a dog she said. Dave and Nate taught class and we worked on something called muscle memory and recalls.  I don't have much muscle yet...Mom says I'm just skin and bones with a lot of fluff to make me look bigger.  Not sure if that's good or bad.  Most of the pups in our class are either yellow labs or golden retrievers and that makes for a problem during play time because they play with each other but not with me.  I tried but then gave up and went over to the mirror.  Guess what!  There was another black puppy just like me.  Sadly, she wouldn't run around.  Oh well, Monty runs with me.  When it came time for recalls I ran really fast to Mom and she said she was very proud of me.

black bear
On Saturday three of our girls came for overnight and we had a good time.  They like to play zoo in the back yard so I was their black bear and Monty was their white tiger.  Tori has quite an imagination and was worried that they were running out of food for the zoo animals.  I wasn't too worried because Mom always has food for me and Mont.  I went to bed before they did but Monty tried to sleep in the den with them.  Mom says that is always a problem.  She had to drag him out

Maddie, Monty, Annie, and Tori

of the room they were sleeping in.  He did get back in to wake them up.

On Sunday Mom and I went into Seattle to an assisted living place to
visit with some older people.  I don't know if any of them are as old
as Granny but they were glad to see us and were very gentle.  There was a whole bunch of dogs from my class and some other ones from a different class.  The people all sat in a circle in the place where they usually eat...I know they eat in that room because the floor smelled soooo good.  The therapy dog wanna bes...that's me...went around the circle with their handlers and visited with the residents.  One of them thought I was a Kerry Blue Terrier!  NOT.
I finally had to lie down because I was so tired.

waiting outside
Next week...actually tomorrow, Mom and I are going to the beach to help Granny.  Uncle Pete is going to cook Granny's dinner Wednesday night and Mom said we would probably go to help.  I think I heard Granny say something about Mom could chew on the  bone from her lamb chop.  I'm sure she meant that I could do that.
Oops...Mom says no!

meeting friends

Maybe I'll go swimming in the hot tub again.  I'm going to have to miss puppy class but I'm so smart, I'll catch up.

This and That

3 new friends
I forgot to tell you about Cousin Meg's last basketball game.  We usually get there early...Mom's kind of like that...and as soon as I got there these three cute little girls came over to visit.  They were very gentle and just petted and petted me.  What a treat for them!  Me too. I was very calm and just stood there, didn't do much of what Dad calls my wiggle butt.  The game didn't go so well but the girls have improved a lot.  Mom says that's what happens when you practice...probably why she makes me practice sooooo much.

helping out
Things have been pretty quiet around her lately so I've been helping out with the chores.  That's always appreciated.    Here I am getting ready to wash the dishes.  It would be a lot easier if they didn't put them in this contraption then they could just put them in the cupboard when I was finished.  Sometimes they let us lick stuff before it goes in the machine.  Deep containers are always a challenge.  The other picture is when I do the actual work on the dishes.

collecting Monty's hair
Another thing I help with is brush-
finishing up
ing Monty.  He has all this blond hair and sometimes I pull some out or pick up the stuff that gets away from Mom.  He has an undercoat so there can be a lot flying around. I don't have that so, of course, am easier.  Mom said there's a lot of trimming to make me look good and, naturally, I want to look good at all times.  Just had a bath this morning and getting neatened up this afternoon...Lookin' good!

The rest of this week and weekend will be pretty busy.  I have puppy class with Becky tomorrow; Maddie, Tori and Annie come overnight on Saturday; we visit an assisted living facility with Annemarie on Sunday.  I'll have lots to tell you next time.

At the Beach

My Beach
We went to our beach house in Kingston this week for a couple of days.  I've been there before and it's a lot of fun because sometimes we get to run on the beach.  I come every time I'm called because I don't want to have to stay on a leash.  Sometimes I have trouble sleeping the first night and need to go out to...you know what...Dad took me out Tuesday night on a leash because it's hard to find me in the dark.  Monty went without a leash...guess what!  He left! After a little while he came back so Mom and Dad didn't have to go find
him but they were a little upset.

I Can Swim!
Dad and Me
Dad has been wanting me to swim but Mom says the sound is too cold for a skinny pup like me!  Last time we were there, Dad turned the hot tub down so it was about 80 when we got there this time.  Guess what...I can swim and Dad is happy.  See the smile on his face.  The
other thing they are happy about is that Monty got in the car almost by himself.  I think he wanted to be with me  because he has always been very worried about traveling in the car and Dad had to lift him in.  He did still pant all the time we were traveling...I just slept and when we stopped I sat up to see where we were.  I must be a good influence on Monty.

Granny and Me
One of the other things we do when we go to the beach is visit Granny.  She is Mom's Mom and is almost 93 years old.  She has what Mom told me are chickens and they are very interesting.  I haven't been out to the chicken house yet but I do watch them from the porch.  Granny likes me, I think...what's not to like?  I was chewing on a bully stick at her house and heard her tell my mom that she'd spoil me and ask the butcher for a real bone for me to chew on.  Not sure what that is but I've heard that word spoil before when I listen to Dad talking to Mom.  I think they mean something like what you see in this picture.
My Special Place
I like to curl up on this hassock and sleep.  Usually, I climb onto the chair behind and nap.  Sometimes Mom sits with me but it's better if it's just me. Dad just shakes his head because he's not so sure I should be up there.  I think he should talk to my mom, Harlow, and a few other Portis about that.  Wednesday I ran up the stairs at the beach house and they couldn't find me...well...I was just sitting on the fouton couch waiting for somebody to come watch TV with me.

I have lots more to tell you but Mom hasn't had time to help me with the blog because she and Dad both bought Iphones and they've been spending a lot of time figuring them out.  She has to figure out how to put pictures from that onto the computer...maybe even a video I can put on my blog.  It was quite a surprise to their human kids that they did that.  I'll do another post in a couple of days.

She's Not Perfect!

Cathy and Me
You know, you read what Juno writes and you think she's just this perfect little pup...Not so! Let me tell you about a couple of incidents.  We had a bit more snow last weekend and Cathy, one of our girls, spent the night.  Mom gave her spaghetti and meatballs for dinner with a slice of garlic bread. It smelled really good.  That Juno did what Mom calls a Porti thing...she jumped up on the table, snagged that bread and took off.  Wow, I've never done that .  Juno did lose the bread because Mom got it; of course she couldn't give it back to Cathy so guess who got it a little later...not only did it smell good, it tasted good too.  Goodness pays off!

under the desk
See that cord in the right corner!
The phones didn't work the other day and Dad tried all sorts of things.  He discovered that one of the phone cords under the computer desk had been chewed.  That space is very special because I spend a lot of time there helping him with teaching and sailboat stuff.  Juno has started coming under with me to cuddle up but guess she wasn't cuddling all the time.  I never did anything like that when I was a puppy!  I think the worst thing I did was chew on a part of the sewing machine cabinet...you can hardly see it.
Cathy and Me and SNOW
Juno started a new puppy class yesterday and Mom said she was acting like she doesn't know anything...no sits, no downs.  I'll have to have a chat with her.  She did tell me that there were a bunch of retrievers at class and they didn't pay much attention to her because they were too busy playing with each other so she started using her growly voice to get them to play, she does that with me and gets in trouble.  Well she got a squirt of water in her face from one of the teachers. Hah!

Juno will have lots to tell in her next blogs because she has a therapy class tonight , she went to Meg's last game today, and we're going to the beach on Tuesday.  Dad says she's going swimming in the hot tub.
