The New Year

Not sure where to start!  Remember my boyfriend Casey who moved to Bend?  Well...his mom sent us an e-mail after New Years with pictures of Casey's new little brother.  His name is Arlo and he's a Jack Russell Terrier.  Smaller than me!  He is kind of cute and will help Casey get a lot of exercise.  The really appaling thing is that he has new girlfriends...Cowgirl and Maggie...they are PIGS!  BIG PIGS!  Can you imagine being thrown over for a couple of swine?  Guess I'll just forget about Casey and chalk it up to a beach romance.

We've been having a lot of snow the last few days.  The cold weather started when we were at the beach on Granny detail.  Mom couldn't even walk up the icy hill in her regular shoes and to top it off, I was sick.  Mom thinks I ate something on the beach I shouldn't have and then just kept having....ummm, you know, the d word.  She decided to come home so we would be closer to my vet in case I needed her.  There was no snow in Kingston or on Bainbridge Island but when the ferry came into Seattle the off ramp was covered.  It was bumper to bumper traffic until 405 and then only a couple of cars on the road.  Mom had stopped to pick up stuff for my "special diet"...yogurt, white rice, and chicken broth...just in case we didn't have any at home.  Thanks to her excellent care, I stopped having the...you know whats.  Back to my normal happy Porti self.  Got to go out and play with my boys from across the street and all the other kids who are sledding on our hill.  Dad said that we could go off our leashes...WOW...Monty led me a merry chase down the cul de sac and all over.  He's such a Golden, but as soon as Dad said "cookie, come"  he ran right over and sat ...I didn't fall for THAT!  Mom made me this spiffy little red coat to wear.  Red is my color you know.  It was nice in the car on the way home because the heater doesn't get to the back of the Outback, but out in the snow it's kind of  a nuisance.  Mom says I need some leggings so I don't get snowballs stuck in my hair.  Some of the Porti people were trying to figure out how to get them out...Mom used a brush to take care of mine.

Mom's thinking about taking me to a training facility...whatever that is....to see if we can do some more work in obedience.  One of her goals was to get a CD on me but now there's lots of other stuff to do in obedience.  She says that it's been a long time since she did anything and wonders about all this new stuff.  It will be a challenge to train me but she already knows that I don't respond to food rewards.  At least she hasn't found one yet.  My puppy training people said I was a treat snob!  I'm not a snob, just picky!

Think I'll see what fun they have planned for me now.  It's kind of icy out and my backyard ball is frozen but it's still fun to play fetch.

It's a Wrap for 2011

We had to help clean up from Christmas so, of course, we were agreeable.  I'm surprised Monty isn't getting fat.  Our day was great! We got another cookie bone so now we each have one..Monty usually takes mine and finishes it off..new squeeky toys and, best of all, the girls came for dinner.  Monty says that means stuff on the floor and Mom and Dad are too busy to keep an eye out!

The girls got their mice and took them to their new homes.  I hope they (the mice) don't miss us too much.  I'm sure the girls will miss us.

It's been a good year and we've had lots of great adventures.  having a Mom and Dad who are retired is pretty cool.  I've probably mentioned highlights is other blogs but here are a few:
Dad's race around Vancouver Island.  He was gone a long
time and had a great adventure.
Picnic for 30 sailors at the beach house!  4 sailboats
anchored in front. Monty and I were really good.
I'm on the calendar for the Porti club.
On a sad note, we lost Dad's Aunt Margie so now he is the
patriarch of the family.  Monty and I never met her but I guess
     she was really nice.

Once again we are at the beach keeping an eye on Granny and, of course, her chickens. Fireworks on New Year's Eve bothered Mont of course but he is "manning up" a little bit so there's hope.

take time for resting

              Happy New Year
        Here's to a great 2012!
